To The Bone is a series of stools from our collaboration with the Master Craftsmen Rogelio Rojas designed during the residency with Design Week Mexico. Two designs came from this exchange, To the Bone and Petate Uno, Petate Dos, both for Tributo collection.
For the stools series we chose the most solid weaving technique, cadena, across all of the forms. However, this stool series undermines solidity of form with exposed skeletal accents. The gridded metal armatures are essential in creating three-dimensional forms with the material, but are typically not exposed. With both designs, our intent was to hint at the hidden aspects of the process which is only apparent if one visits the workshop and the maestro and sees the works in progress.
Tributo is a multidisciplinary design company based in Guadalajara, Mexico. They take pride in merging the work of contemporary designers and traditional producers through the appreciation of cultural heritage, local materials and artisanship.
